4:00 PM – The Myth of Perfection (120 Min)
- The Myth of Perfection
Circus attracts folks who are willing to work hard and try to achieve the impossible. As a community, we seem to have a high rate of perfectionism. Perfectionism can do us a lot of mental and emotional harm if we leave it unchecked. But perfectionism is not just an individual trait! It is created and maintained by unequal systems that trick us into believing some people are inherently more valuable than others. In this workshop, we will explore sneaky signs of perfectionism, individual strategies to manage it, and how to recognize and resist some of the larger systemic issues that reinforce perfectionism. - Cost: $60 per student.

- Flexy Flyers
Let’s get bendy in the air! Learn how to soften into a stretch and gain flexibility without fighting yourself! In this workshop series, students will learn ground-based, silks-assisted, dynamic, and partnered stretches they can incorporate into their own training. They will gain a deeper understanding of the physiological relaxation response that allows for deeper stretches. This workshop is especially designed for aerialists and will provide step-wise progression for students seeking to maintain healthy shoulder mobility and who wish to increase mobility in their hips and spines.

About Janelle Dinosaurs
Artist, Coach, Choreographer, Director, Cirque Psych. Janelle Peters, LSW, (they/she) is a queer circus artist, choreographer, director, and circus coach. Specializing in contortion and aerial hoop, Janelle draws upon their background in martial arts, and dance to create work with the goal of leaving audiences feeling seen, and whole. In addition to performing and teaching independently and at festivals all over the northern hemisphere (so far), Janelle is a founding member, choreographer, performer, and first director with Oakland, California-based company, Hypothetical Circus.
Alongside their artistic and coaching work, Janelle creates materials and facilitates conversations about mental health, wellbeing, and systemic change in circus. This work stems from the question, “What if circus were KNOWN for valuing the wholeness and humanity of everyone involved?”. Janelle offers individual, trauma-informed, social-justice-oriented psychotherapy from a queer lens in their small private practice in Colorado, USA.
